Unmissable Brisbane Drag Racing Events Still to Come in 2016

Located near the town of Ipswich, 30-45 minutes west of Brisbane, Willowbank Raceway is known as Queensland’s premier drag racing facility.

It offers a year round programme of high octane drag racing entertainment and fun for the whole family. We look at some of the events still to come in 2016 being held at Willowbank that you won’t want to miss.

Brisbane Jamboree – 27 August

Heralded as the 2nd largest event on the Willowbank raceway calendar, the Jamboree is a multi-day event with 500 competitors and up to 10,000 spectators. There are 12 classes of drag racing including: Street Grudge Class (where anyone can get on the track and have a go), several categories of Modified vehicles and Extreme (designed for experienced dragsters).   • Student general admission $25

Willowbank Raceway Street Series – 10 September

The street series is an entry level ‘off street’ drag racing event for anyone who wants to race in a street registered car or motorbike. There are three categories: Street Sedan, Powder Puff (ladies only) and Street Bike.

For the Street Sedan series, competitors earn the right to take part by gaining points in elimination rounds throughout the year. There are also time trials that take place before racing starts in the early evening.

  • Gates Open – 4pm
  • Time Trials – 4.30pm to 6:30pm
  • Racing – 7:00pm


  • $45 to race, admits the entrant and one other.
  • Spectators $20 adults, $18 students with ID
  • Children 13 & under are free

Test’n’Tune – Wed, Fri & Saturdays until 21 December

The Test’n’Tune drag races are competitions for people to race against the clock in their modern street cars, and there are no organised eliminations. ‘Modern streetcar’ is defined as one that has a driver’s airbag and 4 wheel disc brakes, but modifications are allowed to the engine, transmission, brakes and suspension. Entry is on the day at the gate.

  • Saturday events – Gates open at 4pm and runs commence at 4.30pm
  • Wednesday & Friday events – Gates open at 5.30pm and runs commence at 6pm
